I was involved in the Kayakomat project from the ground up—from the initial proof of concept with only 10 padlocks to a European-wide rollout with over 5,000 smart padlocks in use. Kayakomat by Point 65 Sweden, a leading kayak rental company with a strong presence in countries including Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Spain, Canada, and Switzerland, offers a seamless experience in three simple steps: Book, Unlock, and Paddle.

With 200 locations renting out thousands of kayaks each season, a flexible and secure access solution was imperative. The traditional process required staff to manage key handovers manually, resulting in inefficiencies and potential issues with key loss or duplication. I worked closely with our internal teams and Point 65 Sweden to deploy a solution that integrated their booking system with our iglooworks API. This integration automated duration PIN code generation and streamlined access management via our dashboard, eliminating the need for manual intervention.

Over the past four years—and still going strong—we’ve optimised our integrations and software offerings while collaborating closely with the customer to implement new processes and provide ongoing support. Today, Point 65 Sweden operates a network of stations across Europe, delivering a secure, contactless, and efficient solution that perfectly encapsulates the “Book, Unlock, and Paddle” experience.
