Hornbach Contactless pick-up
Transforming Hornbach’s Collection Process with Automated Solutions

I was involved in the Hornbach project from the ground up—starting with the initial concept pitch to the operations team, engaging the buyer team, and clearing all legal compliance and purchase processes. Hornbach, Germany’s leading DIY chain store with over 160 stores across Europe, had been limited to in-store collections during fixed hours, leading to operational inefficiencies and customer frustrations. I collaborated with our software team and Hornbach’s developers to launch a proof-of-concept that evolved into a full-scale solution, enabling Hornbach to build an Amazon-style locker system with Igloo padlocks. We deployed over 2,000 padlocks integrated into Hornbach’s Zebra TC21 devices via our igloodeveloper APK, streamlining barcode scanning, product logging, and secure locker access with unique 4-digit PIN codes for out-of-hours pickups. This innovation alleviated resource constraints and significantly improved the pick-up process, delivering exceptional customer satisfaction—a success that continues to benefit Hornbach today.
